    Associate Research Scientist

    Harbor Labs is currently seeking candidates for an Associate Research Scientist position. Working under the Chief Scientist, the Associate Research Scientist will perform both supervised and independent research, experimentation, design and development in support of our clients’ varied cybersecurity and IT requirements. The Associate Research Scientist will also support Harbor Labs’ internal product development efforts. These duties include working with a Harbor Labs Product Manager to develop and extend new product concepts, occasional interaction with end customers, and the ongoing development and maintenance of the company’s line of commercial product offerings.

    Typical activities will include:

  • Interaction with clients to solicit project requirements
  • Working with senior staff to assemble a statement of work and project plan
  • Developing ideas for solutions to cyber security problems faced by our clients
  • Conducting research and testing in support of client requirements
  • Designing, implementation, and integration of security solutions
  • Designing, development and support of the company’s line of of technology products

  • Successful candidates are expected to demonstrate technical depth, creativity and innovation in completing technically complex assignments. They will also participate in business development and other customer facing activities to introduce new service offerings to our clients and to extend and maintain existing customer relationships.

    Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of experience in applied cybersecurity in a commercial or academic environment
  • Knowledge of embedded systems, computer science concepts, computer security concepts, and networking
  • Strong background in vulnerability analysis and exploitation
  • Development and vulnerability research experience on Windows, Linux, OSX and embedded systems
  • Highly skilled in Object Oriented programming
  • Dynamic and static reverse-engineering skills
  • Experience with cryptographic packages
  • Experience with firmware security
  • Kernel development skills

  • Education:

    M.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Security or related field.

    Cyber Software Developer

    Harbor Labs is currently seeking candidates for the Cyber Software Developer position. This position works predominantly with the Senior Research Scientists to create balanced technical solutions to meet the security requirements of the company’s clients. This position calls for a highly technical problem-solver who understands IT systems architectures, security, software, virtualization, and hardware, and can lead other engineers to the resolution of problems in design, development, and operations.


    Typical activities will include:

  • Build and maintain automation, tools, and data-systems in support of the company’s commercial product offerings
  • Interact directly with clients to solicit requirements and generate SOWs
  • Work with staff cyberscientists to design, spec, build and client cyber solutions

  • Qualifications:

  • More than 5 years’ experience in related areas
  • 5 years or more experience in an engineering/network development environment supporting multiple concurrent tasks/projects
  • Experience and expertise in all aspects (application, network, operations, social) of cybersecurity
  • Familiar with Systems Engineering and its application to the development of IT solutions
  • Familiar with Software Engineering methodologies (Agile in particular)
  • Experience with Graphical User Interfaces (GUI) and Command Line Interfaces (CLI) supporting software applications

    Penetration Testing Specialist

    Harbor Labs is currently seeking candidates for the Penetration Testing Specialist position. This position works primarily with Senior Research Scientists to perform comprehensive security assessments and penetration testing against a broad variety of client devices and systems. Duties can include protocol analysis, vulnerability discovery and exploitation, post exploitation impact analysis, and physical security. Penetration Testing Specialists must be able to apply knowledge to develop comprehensive and accurate reports and presentations as needed. This position calls for a highly technical problem-solver who understands software architectures, security, communication protocols, virtualization, and hardware, and work with other engineers to the resolution of problems in design, development, and operations.


    Typical activities will include:

  • Conduct assessments of threats and vulnerabilities through testing and evaluation techniques
  • Conduct hands-on technical testing beyond automated tool validation, including full exploitation and leveraging of access within multiple environments
  • Conduct scenario-based security testing, or red teaming to identify gaps in detection and response capabilities of client end systems

  • Qualifications:

  • 3+ years’ experience with programming in one or more of the following: Python, Ruby, Bash, C, or C++, including scripting and editing existing code
  • 3+ years' experience in two or more of the following: Web application security testing, firmware penetration testing, network penetration testing, or red teaming
  • 2+ years' experience with penetration testing tools, including Kali Linux, Burp, Nmap, Wireshark, Nessus, Metasploit, Core Impact, and Cobalt Strike, WebInspect, AppDetective, Hailstorm, Aircrack ng, and Kismet
  • Experience with using, administering, and troubleshooting Linux and Windows environments
  • Knowledge of network protocols, common vulnerabilities, attack vectors and open security testing standards, including OWASP Top 10
  • Ability to clearly convey results in formal technical reports and deliver briefings to senior client staff
  • Strong technical communication and leadership skills to lead investigations with engineers of multiple disciplines
  • Ability to work well with internal technical staff and external customers and technology partners

  • Preferred Additional Qualifications:

  • More than 5 years’ experience with programming in at least one of the following: Perl, Python, Ruby, Bash, C or C++, C#, PHP, iOS, SQL, or Java, including scripting and editing existing code

    Medical Device Security Analyst

    Harbor Labs is currently seeking candidates for the Medical Device Security analyst position. This position reports directly to the Director of Medical Security, supporting the company’s medical device security consulting practice. Duties include providing engineering related to the cybersecurity and cybersafety requirements of medical clients seeking regulatory or professional certifications, as well as maintaining an ongoing security awareness of client devices post engagement.


    Typical activities will include:

  • Perform manual and automated firmware analysis on target devices
  • Perform pen tests, fuzzing and custom exploit attacks against client medical systems
  • Review deployment architectures, topologies and conops for compliance regulatory security mandates
  • Produce security reports suitable for submission to regulatory bodies

  • Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience performing software or networking security analyses
